"I am totally in love with Newmarket. I wrote this song after going there to sketch the horses in training; It’s heaven for horse enthusiasts, and hopeful equestrian artists (tick both...).
For a couple of hours every day about 3000 young thoroughbreds walk through the town to gallop across the training grounds in turn. In the misty early morning light, with the unearthly sounds of hooves drumming on the turf, it’s a fantastic, extraordinary, haunting place where the ghosts of racehorses of the past gallop alongside the racehorses of the future."
